About Lenny “Lensworth” Frieling
A life of curiosity. A different way of seeing.
A weathered barn. A butterfly’s wings. A familiar landscape transformed by color. For Lenny “Lensworth” Frieling, each offers a reason to stop, look closer, and discover what might otherwise go unnoticed.
An artist, photographer, writer, and former judge, Lenny brings a lifetime of varied experience to his creative work. His subjects range from Colorado’s mountain scenery and wildlife to everyday objects and impressionist interpretations of rural architecture. Across that range, the invitation is simple: spend a little more time looking.
LensworthArtist and Creative Director

A Creative Life, From the Beginning
Lenny’s involvement with photography reaches back to his days as a high school yearbook photo editor. Over the years, his interests have also included electronics, inventing, building, and website design. Exploring how things work—and what else they might become—has given him plenty of room to experiment.
Alongside those creative pursuits, he built a lengthy career in Colorado law. He practiced criminal defense, served as a judge, lectured at universities, and held leadership roles in legal organizations. His writing and photography have both appeared in The Colorado Lawyer.
That background is part of his story, but visitors to his galleries encounter another side of Lenny: an observer drawn to the possibilities of light, shape, texture, and color.
Photography and Imagination
Under the Lensworth name, Lenny works across photography and impressionist imagery. His barn series draws from existing buildings, remembered places, imagined structures, and combinations of images. Familiar forms become opportunities to explore unexpected colors and different moods.
His creative practice has included cameras, brushes, palette knives, acrylics, pencils, and canvas. He also uses digital editing and selected generative tools, combining personal photography with creative direction to develop new artwork. The galleries bring these different approaches together, giving visitors room to discover which images speak to them.
Sharing the View
Lenny was named AboutBoulder’s Photographer of the Year in 2023. As a contributing photographer and writer, he shares his observations of Boulder, the outdoors, and the pleasures found in everyday life.
His first photography book, Lensworth: Through a Photographer’s Eye, published in 2025, brings a selection of his images into a collection readers can explore at their own pace.
Teaching is another part of that exchange. Through photography discussions and critiques, he encourages people to examine composition, recognize possibilities, and develop confidence in their own way of seeing.
